Organizing Fundraising Programs
Many people do not like heading fund raising programs because there is no accurate formula at ensuring its success. Fortunately, there are certain things that need to be avoided in order for a program to be successful.
The first step to take should be to plan the program well. A common mistake here is that people go straight ahead to recruiting before coming up with a concrete plan of raising the needed funds. This would only lead to a large number of people who have no idea how to go about the program yet. Thus, it would be better to form just a small committee first, in order to go over the plans for the fund raising program.
The next thing to do is to create a theme for your fund raising program. Most people think that a theme is not really needed. However obvious the reason may be for the fund raising activity, a theme solidifies that particular reason. People are more inclined to donate more money when they know why a certain organization is trying to raise money in the first place. Make sure your theme is strongly related to your organization. If you are trying to raise funds for basketball uniforms, and your theme is about getting the most of the summer break through swimming, then you will definitely lose donators there. The theme should be creative and witty as well. These qualities are needed for any fund raiser to have a solid theme. Experience also shows that fund raisers with solid themes to support them actually gather more profit than those who do not have such themes at all.
The third step is to make sure that people are placed in all the right positions. This is just about the most important step in the whole process. Delegating tasks may seem easy, but it actually is not. You first have to consider whether the person you are assigning a certain task to is capable of carrying out that task. Evaluation and analysis are the key concepts here. You have to determine the skills and interests of your volunteers. This takes time, as you would have to interview them to determine which areas they would be productive in. There are some who have great leadership skills, and you should capitalize on these. Others are great in building rapport, so they should be the ones interacting with the customers of your program.
Take note of these three steps so that the next fund raising programs you would be heading will be successful as well.
