In some cases, the money is raised by offering services, which are provided by volunteers of the project.  However, most often, a fundraising is done by means of selling products.  A fundraising project receives more attention and support when it offers quality products to people.  If you are part of a committee organizing a fundraising event, it is important to think about what product to sell.  There a lot of ideas, that can be used in selling but in order to decide a good item for fund raising, it is important to consider whether you intend to buy the items or make them on your own. 

For example, some school fund raising projects are done by selling goodies or food products.  The parents of the students who know how to cook or bake pastries may volunteer to produce the goods to be sold for the fundraising event. 

On the other hand, if the committee has decided on purchasing the items, then they must find a trusted distributor of fundraising products.  Many of these dealers have a website so it is easy to check them out online.  These dealers especially provide products for fund raising so they sell their goods at a much lower price.  This way, the fundraisers will be able to get a considerable profit that they can use for their cause.

Your target market or your prospects are also worth considering.  It is advisable to sell items that would be more saleable to the people within your locality.  What are the main interests of the people in your area?  Would they prefer to buy food products or items, which they can use?

Advertising the fund raising event is also an important factor that needs planning and preparation.  How would you promote your fund raising campaign?  Would you advertise on local newspapers or radio stations?  How much do you plan to spend on your advertising expenses?

You may also try more unique ideas in raising your funds.  For instance, a garage sale or holding a competition for a prize is also a great way to attract the public.  People love to shop on garage sales especially if it is for a good cause.  When holding a contest for a prize, consider how much you intend to spend on purchasing a great reward. 

The key to a successful fundraising is choosing a good item for fund raising.  Choose products that can benefit both the customers who support you and the beneficiaries of the fundraising event.
