Samples of fundraising letters we see in the internet are not so distinct like the other types of letters that we know. This type of letter is a tool or another aid for catholic schools, charity foundations and other non-profit organizations to raise funds from individuals. Whenever people receive fundraising letters, they shy away from reading it as soon as they realize the exact purpose of the letter, to ask for money.

So how can you make your receiver read your fundraising letter up to the end? Everything has to have a strategy. Even for writing fundraising letters, there are techniques essential for an appealing and reader-centered message. You are not just sending a birthday party invitation or writing to your friend asking for cash. Instead, you are writing to unknown people, not closely related to you and have no idea about who you are. Most of the sample fundraising letters include the following ideas.

To capture the reader’s attention and finally establish the ground for him to read along, first, you must start with a message that touches his heart. If you are raising funds for the homeless children foundation in a community, you may begin your letter by including facts about these children’s plight in life. You may also include pictures of them in their tattered clothes, sleeping in the streets, and surrounded by flies. In this way, you may let them feel what the children feel as depicted in those pictures. You must have the ability to reach into your reader’s heart and soul to convince him help and support your fund raising campaign.

When you were able to hold your donor in reading the fund raising letter, state the benefits, he will get in supporting your cause.  Donors give, especially financial support, if they know they can get something in return. But of course don’t forget to be as simple as possible. Do not overload your donor with a very fancy benefit. Those benefits should be something tangible or something that they can actually see or experience, and a real thing that they will really possess. Next, you may include success stories or narratives about previous campaigns. You may describe them to make your purpose clear and encourage him that his part is important and that he would make a difference. However, you should remember to still keep it simple. Fund raising letters are not meant to tell stories in detail for your donor will feel overwhelmed with the campaign. One is enough for them to see how you are doing your fund raising events.

Of course, after having those things in mind, the donor will be finally convinced and would want to partake in giving donations. Then you can specify your request by being straightforward and clear. Do not beat around the bush because you will lose the purpose of the letter to be simple and easy to read. If you wish your donor to give cash, then state the amount. If you wish your donor to give clothes, food, educational materials, then specify then clearly. The donor will not guess what the organization needs and he does not have time to think about it. You are writing a fund raising letter so you have to be precise.

There is any limit on the number of pages or how long or short your letter should be. As long as you made clear your case and every detail is necessary, you may write them but not too long that it will take much of their time reading it.
